OUR TOURISM POLICY: RESPONSIBLE AND SUSTAINABLE

As part of our sustainable tourism policy, we offset the carbon emissions from each safari we conduct, ensuring that the only mark you live on the environment are the tyre tracks from your safari vehicle. We chose to offset our unavoidable emissions through Carbon Tanzania, a social enterprise whose innovative approach to habitat conservation is based on selling carbon offsets that result from keeping carbon locked up in forest ecosystems. This, we believe, reduces the impact our operations have on the environment and ensure that our clients? visit matters.

Conserving Tanzania’s Forests

Mega Adventures works with Carbon Tanzania, a forest conservation business that aims to inspire travellers and the travel industry to consider the carbon impact of their safari on both the local and global environment. Carbon emissions from vehicles, energy, aircraft and industry are adding to the acceleration of climate change with the world?s poor feeling the effects most
acutely. Carbon Tanzania works with companies who are looking to minimise their impact by measuring their carbon emissions, reducing them and then offsetting the remaining unavoidable carbon emissions.

The emissions from your safari vehicle have already been offset with the offset payment flowing directly to the forest communities who protect the forest. Carbon Tanzania is Tanzania?s leading supplier of forest carbon offsets that are certified by international third party, verification organisations. Carbon Tanzania is able to link carbon offsets with conservation through their method of generating these offsets. When threatened forests are cut down they release their stored carbon. By protecting threated forests from deforestation the trees are able to continue to capture and store carbon, it is this stored carbon that is measured as a carbon offset. Carbon Tanzania work with indigenous communities to protect their forest and the communities earn an income when the offsets are sold. This translates to offset revenue building a thriving community and a healthy forest for both Tanzania and the global community.
